Back Pain

Back pain can be caused by various conditions such as muscle or ligament strain, slipped discs, arthritis, skeletal irregularities such as scoliosis, or osteoporosis, which can cause compression fractures. At YAPCHANKOR, we have helped thousands of our patients achieve real recovery from many types of back pain. We know very well that back pain can cause you to lose sleep, have difficulty walking or standing, to play sports or even to earn your living. We also know that you may have tried other treatments that did not work and are feeling frustrated that the pain has not gone away.

Step 1: Assess

When you visit us for back pain therapy, we will first examine your back. This examination will be done by certified physiotherapists. We want to assess your ability to sit, stand, walk and lift your legs. We will also ask you to rate your pain on a scale of zero to 10 and discuss how well you’re functioning with your pain.
Our assessment will help us determine where the pain comes from, how much you the pain has limited your function and movement and whether you have muscle spasms. Back pain can be caused by many factors, and we want to understand how serious your condition is.

If you have already seen a doctor or tried any other treatments, it will be helpful if you brought the report or any X-ray, MRIs or CT scans that you may have. If you suspect a fracture, please see a doctor first to get an X-ray or MRI done, as we do not have these facilities.

Step 2: Integrative Therapy

Our back pain treatment is a fusion of both Eastern and Western medicine, combining physiotherapy with our scientifically-proven herbal Chinese medicine patches. Our physiotherapists will apply a variety of modalities, such as massage / muscle release techniques, heat, TENs (electrical stimulation), and ultrasound to relax your back muscles and soft tissues. They will also prepare custom made herbal medicine patches to apply on the affected area of your back. These patches are worn by the patient for at least 12 hours, and help with reducing pain and inflammation as well as improving blood circulation and healing rates.

As you improve over the course of our therapy, our physiotherapist will teach you exercises to increase your flexibility, strengthen your back and abdominal muscles, and improve your posture. By regularly doing these exercises, you will be able to maintain and improve the recovery you see from our therapy.

Step 3: Results

You will usually start to see your pain reducing within the first 3 sessions. How quickly you recover will depend on various factors, such as the initial severity of the back pain, how long or chronic the condition is, whether you are diligent with the exercises we recommend and how often you come back for therapy. In our nearly 40 year history, we achieve the best long term recoveries for our patients when they complete our recommended therapy regimen.
