Frozen shoulder, known also as adhesive capsulitis, is a condition characterized by stiffness and pain in your shoulder joint. The symptoms of a frozen shoulder are pain when you move your shoulder, and limited range of motion of your arm. There are three stages of developing a frozen shoulder, with each stage lasting a few months. For some of you, you may feel more pain at night, and not sleep well as a result.
- Stage 1: Freezing. Moving your shoulder causes pain, and your shoulder’s range of motion starts to become limited.
- Stage 2: Frozen. You may feel less pain at this stage but your shoulder’s range is extremely limited and moving it is very difficult.
- Stage 3: Thawing. This is a recovery stage where your shoulder tightness gradually lessens and your range of motion improves.
Without any treatment, enduring the stiffness/freezing stage to the frozen stage and then hoping for the thawing/recovery stage can take many months or even years.
At YAPCHANKOR, we have helped many frozen shoulder sufferers achieve real recovery without the use of steroid injections or painful manipulations. We know very well that pain from a frozen shoulder can cause you to lose sleep, to not even be able to put on your clothes yourself, to play sports or use your arm the way you normally used to. It may even affect your ability to earn a living. We also know that you may have tried other treatments that did not work and are feeling frustrated that the pain and stiffness have not gone away.
Step 1: Assess
During your first visit to us for your frozen shoulder therapy, our physiotherapist will perform a physical exam, to check for pain and to measure your active and passive range of motion. We will also ask you to rate your pain on a scale of zero to 10 and discuss how well you’re functioning with your pain. We focus on real results for our patient, so we make a strong effort to measure your progress throughout our therapy, sometimes with photos and videos too.
If you have already seen a doctor or tried any other treatments, it will be helpful if you brought the report or any X-ray, MRIs or CT scans that you may have.
Step 2: Integrated Therapy
Our frozen shoulder therapy is a comprehensive recovery plan for you, combining physiotherapy with our scientifically-proven, pharmaceutical Chinese medicine patches. Our physiotherapists will apply a variety of modalities, such as massage/muscle release techniques, heat, TENs (electrical stimulation), and ultrasound to relax your shoulder joint and the muscles and soft tissues around it. After the physiotherapy session, they will also apply these custom-made herbal medicine patches to wrap around your affected shoulder joint. Our YAPCHANKOR patches should be worn by the patient for at least 12 hours, to reduce pain and inflammation as well as to improve blood circulation and healing rates.
As you improve over the course of our therapy, our physiotherapist will teach you a range of motion exercises to increase the mobility of your shoulder. It is particularly important for you to regularly perform these exercises, so that you will be able to maintain and improve the recovery you see from our therapy.
Step 3: Results
Frozen shoulder is a chronic condition that resulted from many months of gradual stiffening and freezing. Even though we believe our therapy provides faster results than anything else out there, sometimes it may not be fast enough if you are the one suffering from the pain. However, our patients report seeing progress around 7 sessions or around a week of therapy. How quickly you recover will depend on various factors, such as the initial stiffness of your frozen shoulder, how old or chronic the condition is, whether you are diligent with the exercises we recommend and how often you come back for therapy.
Michael is a US citizen living in Alaska who flew 7,200 miles to KL for our frozen shoulder therapy. He had tried the best treatments available in the US, including chiropractic treatment and other alternative therapies, but nothing worked. His previous recovery from frozen shoulder after our intervention convinced him it was better to fly back to Malaysia and to do our therapy for his other frozen shoulder, instead of wasting his time and money with treatments in the US.View Testimonials book an appointment
