Osteoarthritis Treatment

Osteoarthritis, or wear and tear arthritis, is the most common form of arthritis. Millions of people worldwide suffer from osteoarthritis when the protective cartilage on the ends of their bones wears down over time. Osteoarthritis can happen to any joint in your body but most commonly affects your knees, hips, spine and hands. Symptoms include pain during movement, tenderness when you apply pressure to the joint, stiffness especially when you wake up in the morning or if you sit or lie down too long, loss of flexibility, grating sensation and bone spurs.

At YAPCHANKOR, we have helped many osteoarthritis sufferers achieve real long term recovery without the use of steroid injections or invasive surgery. We know very well that pain from an arthritic joint can cause you to lose sleep, to not walk or move normally, or even to affect your ability to earn a living. We also know that you may have tried other treatments that did not work and are feeling frustrated that the pain and stiffness has not gone away.

Step 1: Diagnosis

During your first visit to us for your osteoarthritis treatment, our physiotherapist will perform a physical exam, to check for pain, swelling and to measure your joint’s active and passive range of motion. We will also ask you to rate your pain on a scale of zero to 10 and discuss how well you’re functioning with your pain. We focus on real results for our patient, so we make a strong effort to measure your progress throughout our treatment, sometimes with photos and videos too.
If you have already seen a doctor or tried any other treatments, it will be helpful if you brought the report or any X-ray, MRIs or CT scans that you may have.

Step 2: Treatment

Our osteoarthritis treatment for your hip, knee, back, shoulder or hand, is a unique and effective treatment that can only be found at YAPCHANKOR. This is because while many places offer physiotherapy for osteoarthritis (OA) patients, they do not combine it with our proven Chinese medicine patches. We will apply our patches on your affected joints, and they work by reducing inflammation and pain, and facilitate healing. Our physiotherapists will also use various techniques such as heat, TENs (electrical stimulation), and ultrasound to relax your joint and the muscles and soft tissues around it. Massage will be used when appropriate. After each session, we will apply our medicine patches, which you need to wear for at least 12 hours.

When your pain and inflammation reduces, our physiotherapists will teach you a range of motion exercises to increase the mobility of your affected joint. We will also teach you how to strengthen the surrounding muscles and soft tissues like ligaments and tendons to support the arthritic joint. With OA, it is very important that you regularly perform these exercises to maintain and improve the recovery you see from our treatment.

Step 3: Results

Osteoarthritis is a chronic condition that can happen when our bodies age. Even though we believe our treatment provides faster results than anything else out there, sometimes it may not be fast enough if you are the one suffering with the pain. However, our patients report seeing progress around 7 to 10 sessions or around a week of treatment. How quickly you recover will depend on various factors, such as the initial severity of your osteoarthritis, how old or chronic the condition is, whether you are diligent with the exercises we recommend and how often you come back for treatment.
