Slipped Disc

Between your vertebrae are rubbery cushions called spinal discs, which have a soft centre and tougher exterior. When the softer centre pushes out through a tear in the tougher exterior, you suffer a slipped disc, also known as a herniated or ruptured disc. In some cases, the slipped disc will impinge on nearby nerves and cause pain, numbness or weakness in your arms or legs. Slipped discs are fairly common, and can be caused by lifting heavy objects with your back muscles instead of your legs. However there is no clear cut reason for this condition. Slipped discs may very well be a function of our modern day sedentary lives which lead to a weakening of our back muscles which make injuries more likely.

At YAPCHANKOR, we have helped many people seeking slipped disc treatment in Malaysia, usually at the lower back (e.g. L4 and L5 vertebrae) or in the neck (cervical) region. Slipped disc sufferers can feel intense pain. If the lower back is affected, then you might feel numbness and weakness in your legs. If the cervical area is affected, then usually there is numbness or weakness in your arms, if the relevant nerves are affected.

We understand that a slipped disc problem, like any severe back pain issue, can cause a lot of pain and discomfort. Your normal activities may be significantly impacted, resulting in loss of income even. Slipped disc conditions usually do not require surgery to treat. We know that you may have tried other treatments that did not work and are feeling frustrated that the pain and has not gone away.

Step 1: Assess

During your first visit to us for your slipped disc therapy, our certified physiotherapists will examine your spine for areas of tenderness and to check your reflexes and areas of numbness. We may check your walking ability and muscle strength. We will also ask you to rate your pain on a scale of zero to 10 and discuss how well you’re functioning with your pain. We focus on real results for our patient, so we make a strong effort to measure your progress throughout our treatment, sometimes with photos and videos too.

If you have already seen a doctor or tried any other treatments, it will be helpful if you brought the report or any X-ray, MRIs or CT scans that you may have.

Step 2: Integrative Therapy

Our slipped disc therapy is an effective, non-surgical way that uses our powerful and time-tested Chinese medicine patches to reduce inflammation in the affected vertebrae, with modern physiotherapy modalities. Our recovery plan for slipped discs is a comprehensive therapy that reduces pain and inflammation, improves healing rates and increases your spine’s flexibility and strength. Techniques like massage / muscle release techniques, heat, TENs (electrical stimulation), and ultrasound will be used at various stages of our treatment. At each session, we will freshly prepare our medicine into patches that are applied on your affected back region, and you will need to keep these on for at least 12 hours, ideally.

As you feel improvements over the course of the therapy, and your back function returns, we will proceed to teach you back flexibility and strengthening exercises. Exercise is highly important to maintain and improve on the recovery you experience from our treatment.

Step 3: Results

Our slipped disc patients usually start seeing results within a few days of therapy. Results at this early stage will include reduction in pain levels. Numbness and weakness will gradually disappear within the 2nd week of therapy and typically our patients will undergo between 2 to 3 weeks of therapy. The key to the faster recovery they see at YAPCHANKOR is our proprietary herbal medicine patches which help expedite the body’s healing rates and to reduce inflammation.
