Meniscus Op Rehab

"“I had gone for surgery back in early February for a discoid meniscus at Kuala Lumpur Sports Medicine Centre (KLSMC). Going for their physiotherapy and injecting stem cells after the surgery, I was expected to recover by 3 months or so. 3 months had gone by but the pain on my left knee persisted. After going for an MRI scan advised by the doctor, they told me that my meniscus had a tear and advised another surgery. My parents and I had planned to have the surgery at the end of the year as I had school. In the meantime, I got to know about YAPCHANKOR online and decided to get a second opinion there. When I went to YAPCHANKOR, I was told that the tear in my meniscus had been healed and the scarring was causing the pain. They told me that they couldn’t help much with the pain but could help me build my leg muscles back, but of course I was in much doubt as I had experienced a lot of pain during the physiotherapy in KLSMC, but my parents had signed me up anyway. Amazingly, after just 10 sessions with YAPCHANKOR, I was able to do squats and other leg workouts without much pain, thanks to Arif, the physiotherapist in YAPCHANKOR who had corrected my form and taught me ways to do the leg exercises with less pain. As time progressed, my leg muscles were building through the workouts. I have also noticed that as my leg muscles increased, the pain decreases. Ever since, I have refused surgery, as I do not see the need to. I now am occasionally playing futsal and going for jogs. I’d like to thank YAPCHANKOR, my parents and God.” – Nigel Caoile Phang"

16-year old Nigel’s case is a pretty interesting one that we recently saw. He had undergone a meniscus surgery at the KLSMC in early 2014 to fix his discoid meniscus in his left knee (basically the meniscus was too thick) and was told he would recover in 3 months after physiotherapy and stem cell injections to combat the pain. But the pain persisted. The doctor there suspected a tear had formed in the meniscus and recommended another surgery. His parents planned to have his surgery at the end of 2015.

Fortunately, he came to see us first. From not being able to play sports or do long walks without suffering serious pain, he was able to jump squats, go back to playing futsal and his sports after our treatment! We were able to help him build back his atrophied leg muscles. He now has decided that he does not need surgery on his knee anymore, which is fantastic for a young man like himself. We are even more happy to hear that he has gone back to playing sports, something that he hasn’t been able to do for over a year since his surgery. Thank you for sharing your story here Nigel!
