Knee Pain

Knee pain is a common problem that can affect people of all ages. It can be caused by an injury such as a ruptured ligament or torn cartilage, or by more chronic conditions like arthritis or gout. Common knee conditions are ACL injuries, torn meniscus, patellar tendinitis, knee osteoarthritis and knee bursitis. At YAPCHANKOR, we have helped thousands of our patients achieve real recovery from many types of knee pain. We know very well that knee pain can cause you to lose sleep, have difficulty kneeling to perform your prayers, walking or standing, to climb stairs or play sports, and sometimes even to affect your ability to earn a living. We also know that you may have tried other treatments that did not work and are feeling frustrated that the pain has not gone away.

Step 1: Assess

When you visit us for knee pain, we will first examine your knees. This examination will be done by certified physiotherapists. We want to assess your ability to sit, stand, walk and lift your legs. We will also ask you to rate your pain on a scale of zero to 10 and discuss how well you’re functioning with your pain.

Our assessment will help us determine where the pain comes from, how much you the pain has limited your function and movement and whether you have muscle spasms. Knee pain can be caused by many factors, and we want to understand how serious your condition is.

If you have already seen a doctor or tried any other treatments, it will be helpful if you brought the report or any X-ray, MRIs or CT scans that you may have. If you suspect a ligament tear, please see a doctor first to get an MRI done, as we do not have these facilities.

Step 2: Integrative Therapy

Our knee pain therapy is a real alternative for patients who are considering more invasive or painful procedures such as injections or surgeries. We use our proven pharmaceutical Chinese medicine together with physiotherapy modalities such as massage / muscle release techniques, heat, TENs (electrical stimulation), and ultrasound to relax your knee and the surrounding muscles and soft tissues. After each session, our patient will have our medicine wrapped around their knees, and they ideally should keep the medicine on for at least 12 hours, to help with healing, pain and inflammation reduction as well as improving blood circulation and healing rates.

As your knee improves over the course of our therapy, we will teach you exercises to increase your flexibility, strengthen your knee and leg muscles. By regularly doing these exercises, you will be able to maintain and improve the recovery you see from our treatment.

Step 3: Results

You will usually start to see your pain reducing within the first 3 sessions. Knee osteoarthritis or ligament tear injuries require a little longer to see results. Sometimes patients only report progress after 7 to 10 sessions. How quickly you recover will depend on various factors, such as the initial severity of the knee pain, how long or chronic the condition is, whether you are diligent with the exercises we recommend and how often you come back for treatment. In our nearly 40 year history, we achieve the best long term recoveries for our patients when they complete our recommended treatment regimen.
