Neck Pain

Neck pain is a very common issue in today’s desk-bound work environment. With millions of people bending over their computers or smartphones, as well as poor posture over prolonged periods, our neck muscles can get strained. Another common cause of neck pain is osteoarthritis, also known as cervical spondylosis, which happens when the protective cartilage at the end of your bones (vertebrae) wear out. Neck pain can also be caused by nerve compression, which happens when herniated discs or bone spurs in the vertebrae of your neck press on the nerves branching out from the spinal cord. Injury-related neck pain such as whiplash, especially from rear-end auto accidents causing your head to jerk backward and then forward, is another common cause.

At YAPCHANKOR, we have helped many people seeking neck pain treatment in Malaysia, particularly for chronic neck pain such as osteoarthritis or cervical spondylosis, disc degeneration, nerve compression, whiplash injury and stiff necks. We understand that a neck pain can really cause a lot of pain and discomfort, even numbness and “pins and needles” down your arms if your nerves are affected. We also know that you may have tried other treatments that did not work and are feeling frustrated that the pain and stiffness has not gone away.

Step 1: Assess

During your first visit to us for your neck pain therapy, our physiotherapist will examine your neck for areas of tenderness and to check your range of motion, such as how far you can move your head forward, backward, and side to side. We will also ask you to rate your pain on a scale of zero to 10 and discuss how well you’re functioning with your pain. We focus on real results for our patient, so we make a strong effort to measure your progress throughout our treatment, sometimes with photos and videos too.

If you have already seen a doctor or tried any other treatments, it will be helpful if you brought the report or any X-ray, MRIs or CT scans that you may have.

Step 2: Integrative Therapy

Our neck pain treatment consists of both traditional Chinese medicine (herbal patches) and modern medicine, using physiotherapy modalities. Our physiotherapists will teach you posture correction techniques, and will apply a variety of treatments, such as massage / muscle release techniques, heat, TENs (electrical stimulation), and ultrasound to relax your neck and the muscles and soft tissues around it. The difference in YAPCHANKOR recovery plans is in the proven herbal medicine patches we use. At every treatment session, our certified physiotherapists will prepare our herbs into a warm patch to apply on the affected area of your neck after the physiotherapy session. These patches are worn by the patient for at least 12 hours, and help with reducing pain and inflammation as well as improving blood circulation and healing rates.

As you improve over the course of our therapy, our physiotherapist will teach you neck-strengthening exercises. It is particularly important for you to regularly perform these exercises, so that you will be able to maintain and improve the recovery you see from our treatment.

Step 3: Results

Your recovery will depend on what caused your neck pain. If your neck pain is caused by strained muscles, you will probably recover faster than more chronic wear-and-tear conditions such as cervical spondylosis or disc degeneration. Typically acute neck pain patients will experience a reduction of pain and relief within a week while more chronic conditions will take 2 to 3 weeks of treatment.
